Description: Teaching can be one of the most rewarding parts of graduate school—and one of the most challenging. This workshop offers practical strategies to help you teach and lead discussion sections more effectively while protecting your time and energy.

We'll discuss approaches to common TA challenges that transcend disciplinary boundaries: creating inclusive learning environments, managing grading workload efficiently, navigating tricky classroom dynamics, communicating clear expectations, and finding the balance between being supportive and maintaining boundaries. Through interactive discussion, you'll leave with techniques you can implement in a variety of teaching contexts.

Workshop facilitator, Marwa Abdalla, brings six years of undergraduate teaching experience across multiple institutions and three years as the Department of Communication's senior TA. Marwa will share insights from redesigning TA training programs, conducting needs assessments, and many conversations with graduate TAs/IAs and faculty.

Come ready to share your own experiences, ask questions, and connect with fellow TAs from across disciplines.
