Graduate Diversity Coordinators are department and program representatives within the UC San Diego community who are committed to recruiting diverse students. The Diversity Coordinators work to ensure that an equitable approach is followed within their respective departments/programs via the department Chairs and Admission Committees.
Their responsibilities include, but aren't limited, to the following:
Expand graduate student, faculty, and staff participation in diversity outreach and recruitment efforts to increase the diversity of the applicant pool and admit a highly qualified diverse graduate student body.
Review graduate program admissions procedures to ensure that the application review and selection is inclusive.
Promote retention efforts for continuing graduate students. Work with the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs and the campus community centers to facilitate networking, mentoring, professional development, and other activities to promote a program and campus climate that is inclusive.
Identify and distribute information about diversity funding opportunities and programs.
Encourage graduate students from underrepresented groups to consider academic careers and postdoctoral positions.
